Led by legendary quarterback Joe Montana, the 1981 San Francisco 49ers cruised through the regular season with a record of 13-3, tops in the NFC West. Montana threw for 3,565 yards, while his favorite target – Dwight Clark – had 85 receptions for 1,105 yards. The 49ers had a memorable postseason run, which began with a 38-24 victory over the New York Giants in the Divisional Round. San Francisco then beat the Dallas Cowboys, 28-27, in the NFC Championship Game, thanks to “The Catch” by Clark. In another tight contest, the 49ers won the Super Bowl over the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-21.
